On my 306, with AFR heads, Edelbrock RPM Air Gap intake, and Holley 570 carb, I too did a lot of research for the best cam. I decided to go with Comp Cam for rockers, lifters and cam. I played with the program, and while it made some cam recommendations, I wasn't convinced. First, I was disappointed. I didn't feel or hear the advertised 420 or so horsepower of my rebuilt 355 with Edelbrock E-210 heads and Performer RPM intake manifold. Second, after properly breaking in the cam / engine with cam lube and break in oil, the cam rounded out 2 lobes and about 4 lifters were damaged. 1 lifter actually came apart. Comp bills the XE268H as having a 1,600-5,800-rpm operating range, compared with the 268H High Energy's 1,500-5,500-rpm range. The XE268H should work with a stock converter but is better with at least a 2,000-rpm stall-speed converter.
